Having had an opportunity to travel extensively as part of my work, I got involved with photography. This was my diary. Being very visual, I meditate with my eyes.

Retirement and freedom from the commercial restraints opened my eyes wider to the commonplace and frequently unnoticed beauty. I addition, I learned to appreciate how fleeting are the moments of being there at the right time and place, to capture the sight, that will never be the same - not the same flower and not the same ray of light. Not the same barn - it collapses in decay. Not the same ice storm seen early in the morning.

I cherish the fact that I am able to share these moments with some kindred spirits.

Elsa Karr's Amazing Thread Paintings

Indeed one of the most unusual art mediums to be seen at this year's HOLIDAY SHOW at Art On Main is Elsa Karr's thread paintings. Much like the Impressionist's concept of building colored areas with strokes or dots of paint, the image is created with densely built layers of stitches creating a lively textural surface. These small "paintings" are lush with color.

Over the last couple of years John MacGruer has concentrated on plants in their natural environments. With Silk & Seed he captures the grace, color and movement of milkweed plants as they release their seeds. For maximum visual effect, he worked at twilight in a field that provided background sky colors in 3 directions.
Each day brought different light, weather conditions and changes in the opening of the pods. Enhanced with long duration exposures and camera movement, John's photographs have a magical painterly look.
